  • Do I need a foundation?

Great question! It depends on what you plan on putting your mattress on. If you have a platform bed (a bed with slats) then you don't need a foundation. However if you have a traditional bed (headboard, footboard, and rails) then you will need a foundation to sit on or in your bed rails to support the mattress. Also if you have a headboard only then you will need a metal frame and a foundation. You may also use a metal frame under your foundation without a headboard just to keep your mattress and foundation off the floor. But if you want to put your mattress and foundation straight on the floor we won't judge you

Note: Traditionally a mattress and foundation are referred to as a mattress set.

Will the foundation work with any mattress?

The Layla® Foundation will work perfectly fine with any mattress. Just make sure you have the correct size.

What's the difference between a foundation and a box spring?

The short answer: There is no difference.

The long answer: In the old days a mattress foundation was a wooden box that also contained springs or a metal grid. The purpose of this was so that the foundation would have give in order to support innerspring mattresses. These foundations were called box springs. The industry moved away from this in the 1980's however mattress foundations today are commonly referred to as box springs. We call it a foundation but you can call it a box spring if you like. Tomay-to, tomah-to.

What's the difference between The Layla® Foundation and The Layla® Platform Bed?

The Layla® Platform Bed stands alone on a set of legs and does not require a bed frame. Your mattress may go directly on top of the platform bed.

The Layla® Foundation would be used for a bed that requires a box spring and can be placed on a metal frame which gives you the option of attaching a headboard.

Do I need a bed frame for my foundation?

The foundation works just like any box spring. Unless your foundation is going inside of a traditional bed (headboard, footboard, and rails setup) then yes, you will need a metal bed frame to go under your foundation to keep it off the floor. For the best support of course we recommend pairing your Layla® Foundation with the Layla® Bed Frame. If you happen to use another bed frame just make sure it has a center support bar for the best sleeping experience.

Setup was so easy - no instructions were needed (although, they are provided). The foundation is quiet - no squeaks or noises at all.
